10 Bold New Year’s Resolutions I’m Daring to Dismiss in 2026
This January, I refuse to fall into the familiar trap of “New Year, New Me.” I’m not embracing any aesthetic makeovers or planning an elaborate wellness agenda. There will be no measuring or weighing for comparison. I’m stepping into 2026 without the pressure of being a ongoing renovation project.
The true essence of wellness lies not in relentless improvement but in consistent self-care. It embraces compassion, joy, and gratitude for our current selves while allowing space for intentional shifts over time.
This won’t be easy. Society tends to shout for speed and excess. But I choose to slow down, to focus on what truly matters, and to simply exist in the moment.
Recent years have been about self-discovery, unlearning, and growth—not about reaching an end goal but appreciating the journey and all the richness it holds.
With this perspective, here are the New Year’s resolutions I firmly refuse to adopt.
10 New Year’s Resolutions to Avoid in 2026
Growth isn’t just about maintaining a singular focus on improvement.
1. I will not be taking cold plunges
My nervous system already experiences enough stress in daily life. I don’t need to simulate extreme conditions before breakfast. Plus, much of the research on cold exposure primarily involves men. Women often respond differently. So, while some may find it exciting, I’ll be cozy under three blankets and wearing my warmest socks.
2. I will not be forcing down any green juice that reminds me of yard work
If something doesn’t spark joy, it’s not part of my new year. You can absolutely enjoy what you eat while maintaining health. Happiness in consumption should not be sacrificed for wellness.
3. I will not be purchasing a full-body red-light panel
Honestly, I’m unsure of its benefits. Different articles claim varying outcomes, from collagen boosts to improved mood. I might consider a facial mask—let’s just say I’m interested in preserving my youthful glow.
4. I will not meditate for an hour daily
Instead, I’ll stick to my manageable routine: 10 minutes in the morning and another 10 in the evening. That’s sufficient to calm my mind without transforming meditation into a burden.
5. I will not treat exercise like I’m prepping for an Ironman
This year, my actual goal is to move in ways that feel enjoyable. A stroll counts. Some stretches are valuable. And yes, dancing wildly in the kitchen while dinner is cooking is definitely valid.
6. I will not be eliminating gluten or chasing the latest trendy superfood
I intend to nourish my body by listening to its needs. Anyone who disagrees can consult their personal wellness journey. I’m stepping away from fad diets and embracing what feels right for me.
7. I will not turn my life into a science experiment with biohacking
Instead, I’ll support my well-being through the basics—adequate sleep, nutritious food, movement, boundaries, and a sprinkle of organization. And yes, I’m allowed one spreadsheet as a Virgo.
8. I will not invest in any new bio-monitoring gadgets
No Oura ring or Whoop strap for me. I don’t need a $300 device to inform me of what I already recognize—when I wake up feeling off. Instead, I’ll simply take a moment to assess my mood and needs.
9. I will not be manifesting without taking tangible steps
I’ll absolutely focus on my good energy and intentions. However, action is still key. I’ll be proactive in moving toward my goals while visualizing the life I desire, even if it doesn’t magically appear.
10. I will not transform into some polished version of a wellness influencer
No significant overhauls here. If something nourishes me, I will commit to it. If it merely serves to impress others, I’m out. This year, I choose authenticity over aesthetics. Living well, in all its imperfect glory, is far richer than maintaining a flawless image.
Now, it’s your turn. What outdated habits, trends, or societal expectations are you letting go of as we dive into 2026?
