This research is particularly significant for the global device-based aesthetics industry because much of the field’s scientific evidence comes from studies conducted by equipment manufacturers in collaboration with their partners, with such studies typically examining the effects of a specific device.
With more than 15 years of experience in device-based aesthetics, Oksana Ilyushina decided to study the combined effects of two device-based techniques using equipment from different manufacturers. In Russia, she opened two clinics and co-founded Beauty Clinic, a major aesthetic treatment center. Since 2022, Ilyushina has continued her aesthetics practice in the United States.
Her experience as both a practitioner and a manager led Ilyushina to find that more than 85% of clinic clients undergo treatments using multiple devices rather than just one. For example, microcurrent therapy is used to improve skin texture, while lymphatic drainage is used to enhance circulation and improve muscle tone. In her study, Ilyushina outlines optimal approaches to scheduling these procedures to achieve the best aesthetic results.
Drawing on her extensive practical experience in aesthetic cosmetology, Ilyushina incorporated at-home care techniques into the treatment program, including the use of skincare products and facial massage. She found that following a consistent at-home care regimen using professional skincare products significantly enhances the effectiveness of device-based treatments, extending the duration of their aesthetic effects by at least 20%.
Oksana Ilyushina’s research also examines the use of device-based aesthetic treatments to address inflammation and acne and support skin recovery. With her medical training and extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and dermatology, Ilyushina analyzes how frequently and under what conditions device-based procedures can be performed for patients with skin conditions, as well as which products may be appropriate for at-home care.
Another of Oksana Ilyushina’s studies, published in American Impact Review, also makes a significant contribution to the development of aesthetic practices. Titled “Predictors of the Effectiveness of Multimodal Non-Invasive Facial Rejuvenation: A Conceptual Model Accounting for Skin Condition, Soft Tissue, Edema, and Muscle Tone,” the study presents Ilyushina’s approach to patient history-taking, a standard requirement in medicine that has yet to become established practice in cosmetology.
Based on her extensive medical experience, Ilyushina found that assessing a patient’s baseline characteristics can help predict their response to treatment before a procedure is performed and guide the selection of an appropriate protocol. Rather than simply replicating conventional medical history-taking, her methodology focuses specifically on predictors that may directly affect treatment outcomes. Ilyushina systematized and analyzed these predictors and used the resulting data to develop a multifactorial model that can be applied by practitioners performing device-based aesthetic procedures. The study also offers practical tools for industry professionals, including standardized profiles of predicted treatment response and a methodology for the subsequent clinical validation of the conceptual model.

Ilyushina notes that professional salon devices currently offer significantly greater functionality and power than those widely used for at-home facial care.
